The M.U.S.C.L.E. Mafia!  What the?

Apparently The M.P.S. is evil

Oh boy.. The M.E.F. is back and is promising to expose me and my organization for what we really are.  Check out their article below..

Geez.. crazy conspiracy theorists!

2-28-08 Wizard Toy Fare

The M.U.S.C.L.E. Toyline gets props

If you haven't done so yet, run out and get yourself a copy of Wizard ToyFare issue 128, available wherever comics and fine toy collecting magazines are sold.  It's got a nice three page spread about the M.U.S.C.L.E. toy line, and they even came up with a pricing guide.

2-18-08  M.U.S.C.L.E. Times issues

Didn't fall off the face of the earth..
just got hacked.

Ah it's good to be back.  I haven't actually gone anywhere, I've just been incredibly busy.  Last month hackers who call themselves "The M.E.F." wrecked my site for a couple of days, and I've since been bombarded with e-mail from those whom I can only assume are the same idiots.

Here's a screen shot of what I found on the evening of January 19th when I went to work on the site..

All of my files were wiped, and my main page pointed to the picture above.  Impressively, my hosting company stepped up, added extra security free of charge, and the site was back up within a day.

Whomever The M.E.F. is, they promise to reveal the "truth" about The M.P.S so the world can see the true colors of its founder.  What a joke.  We'll see what happens next!

12-09-07  M.U.S.C.L.E. Times issues

Issues 4, 5, and 6 uploaded

I just added three more issues of the The M.U.S.C.L.E. Times to the Newsletter section.  Issues 5 and 6 give nice insight as to what was going on in the hobby at the time during 1998/99, including topics about "The mysterious 4 armed M.U.S.C.L.E." and The Nestle Quik Promotion.  Enjoy!

11-25-07 MUSCLE Man Mask

During my weekend web crawl, I came across this cool looking Kinnikuman mask on the Japanese toy site Toy Shop EUDA.

From what I could tell after translating the web page, the mask is a prototype, and can be yours for a mere 100,000 yen (about 930.00 U.S. Dollars).  There's also a bunch of other cool masks and some Ultra Man items listed there as well.

This mask is light years ahead of the other ones I've seen through the years, which all look similar to the ones at the site below..

While the Mask is definitely cool looking, I can imagine how hot that thing would be to wear!  maybe this was one of the reasons it never moved past the prototype stage.  It also doesn't look like eye holes were ever cut, which would most likely cheapen the whole look of the mask.  Whatever the case, I still wouldn't mind having one of these.

11-23-07  Fox and Tortle Show Theme

The Fox and Tortle Show was the brainchild of Nathan Newell and myself.  Nathan did all of the heavy lifting designing the graphics, and pretty much everything else, while I simply consulted on the first couple of episodes.  Something I did create however, was a theme song for the shows intro.  I found it today while digging through the old M.P.S. archives.  Here it is, in all of its eleven seconds of glory...

11-18-07 The M.P.S. Second coming

That's right kids.. The M.U.S.C.L.E. Preservation Society is back! As many of you are aware, The original M.P.S. site shut down a few years ago.  I left the site in the hands of another collector to maintain with disastrous results.  Distraught at what my creation had become, I made a couple of feeble attempts to bring the site back in different form.  First came Darrin's M.U.S.C.L.E. Dojo, and then The M.U.S.C.L.E. Guild.  Both focused on M.U.S.C.L.E. as well as other toy lines, but neither site ever really took off.  The sites lacked proper focus, and the varied content tended to take attention away from The M.U.S.C.L.E. toy line.

Early in the spring of 2007 after months of discussion, my good friend Jason Radneicki of M.C.W. fame and myself decided to bring our sites back, if for no other reason than posterity.  We wanted to give the newer collectors in the hobby a taste of what our online sub-culture used to be like waaaaay back in the 20th century during the early days of internet.  We also thought that the old timers in the hobby would enjoy a nice walk down memory lane.

With that being said, it's with great pride that I unveil the new M.U.S.C.L.E. Preservation Society web-site.  Within these pages you will find scads of information, memories, and collecting info.  In the months and years to come, the site will continue to grow and evolve as we add new findings, experiences, and anything else remotely related to our great hobby.  So take a look around, and experience the wonder that is M.U.S.C.L.E.

11-17-07 Interesting M.U.S.C.L.E. Video Game facts
Darrin M. Vindiola Jr.

This site's very first official post!

In honor of the grand reopening of The MPS, I thought I'd do a write up on MUSCLE/Kinnikuman/Ultimate Muscle video Games.

MUSCLE Tag Team match
This was a game for the original 8-bit Nintendo Entertainment System.  It was a wrestling game where you could fight as some of the MUSCLE characters. This game ended up showing us some of the wrestlers names. One for example is Terry man, who in the original Kinnikuman was the best friend of Kinnikuman (Muscleman in English) Anyway, Because Nintendo used the name Terry man, Terri Bull's name had to be changed into his original Japanese name, Buffalo man. Did you know that in the original version of the MUSCLE game, there was a character that was replaced by Geronimo? You Kinnikuman fans may know him as Blocken man. Apparently, because of his relation to Nazis, he had to be taken out of the American version of the game. Geronimo and Blocken man both have the projectile special move, only Geronimo threw axes, and Blocken man threw strange blobs.

Ultimate MUSCLE Legends vs New Generation
M.U.S.C.L.E. (sort of) made a return in America as Ultimate Muscle.  In this series, Muscle man (Now known as King muscle) has a son that takes his place in the wrestling ring. The Ultimate Muscle game, kind of plays like the original NES game, but better! It was released sometime during 2002.

I remember playing a demo of this game for the Game Cube when it first came out.  The demo was taken from the popular Japanese version of the game, and instead of translating it, the original Japanese voices where kept in! They probably thought translation wasn't necessary since it was only a demo.

I actually played this game a few days ago.  As you rack up points, you get credits to buy toys in the game both new and old. If you're a fan of MUSCLE, then you may recognize a few of these little rubber guys.

For the heck of it, I bought my Dad's childhood favorite The Fox M.U.S.C.L.E. #124, and I noticed that he was named wrong. Rather than Fox man, his name was Forks man! Quite a funny mistranslation if I say so myself!

Also in the game were recruit wrestlers.  Some of these guys were created for the game and then appeared in the Anime later on! In the game you use their body parts for the somewhat disappointing yet fun custom character mode.  If you look in the Audience in certain levels, you may spot some familiar faces from the past and present series. Some of the characters included are Cube man, a Rubik's cube like wrestler, Sgt. Kinnikuman, a brother to Kinnikuman/King Muscle, Tape recorder man, whose name speaks for itself, and Monsieur cheeks, a disturbing wrestler with a butt for a face.

I know that there are other Japanese releases that I've never played, but if I ever do, I will definitely cover them here.

Old M.P.S. Poll from 1998

A poll from the old M.P.S. Members only site!

During the construction of this site, I searched through dozens of old floppy disks from The M.P.S. archives, and came across tons of stuff that I had forgotten about until now.  One such tidbit was an online poll we ran back in 1998 on the members only web-site.  Here are the questions and results of said poll..

WHAT IS YOUR LEAST FAVORITE M.U.S.C.L.E.?
And the least most popular M.U.S.C.L.E.'s of 1998 are..
7, 10, 19, 38, 41, 44, 95, 99, 107, 184, 186, 195, 203

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE COLOR OF M.U.S.C.L.E.?
The favorite color was good old classic pink.
The runners up were green, neon-orange, dark blue, and red.

IF YOU HAD TO EAT A M.U.S.C.L.E...
WHICH ONE WOULD IT BE?

The Results....
7, 20, 33, 60, 85, 99, 107, 162, 189, 195, 202
The common logic seemed to be that no one wanted to swallow a M.U.S.C.L.E. which couldn't easily pass through their lower extremities. For instance, could you imagine the end result of eating M.U.S.C.L.E. #15 or #64?  OUCH!!
