I
bought a few packs of M.I.M.P.'s when they first came out in 1990
because they reminded me of M.U.S.C.L.E. Monster in my pocket
was a toy line of small, non moving rubber figures that were roughly
the same size as M.U.S.C.L.E. They were based on classic
monsters from legends and folklore like Frankenstein, The Kraken,
Medusa, and many others. What was cool about these figures, is
that each one came with a trading card that featured an eerie artist
rendition of the monster on the front, and the history about the
monster on the back. Each figure also had a number stamped on
it, a power point if you will.. so you could play some sort of
battle game with them.

The Monster in my pocket franchise did
pretty well for a couple of years in the early nineties. There were
three series of figures produced, and several more that were released as
premiums in cereal boxes, restaurants, video games, etc. An
array of items were available from this franchise including lunch
boxes, comics, videos, and stickers. M.I.M.P. collectors even
enjoyed the benefits of an official club with collectors zines and
more.
A new M.I.M.P. toy line was released
last year in 2006 featuring painted figures, but it didn't seem to
enjoy the success the old toy line did. For more info on this
ingenious 90's toy line, visit..
